CHAMBERS — After an invasive plant caused Goose Lake Wildlife Management Area near Chambers to close in September, the public can now return.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission shut down the area after Eurasian Watermilfoil was found in the lake. The plant can create thick surface mats that can interfere with boating, fishing and swimming.
Boats were able to pass through the lake so the concern was transporting the plant to other bodies of water. The commission says water recreation activities pose little threat of spreading the plant since the lake has frozen over, but anybody that goes in the water is encouraged to clean, drain and dry their equipment when they leave the area.
