ORD — This week in Valley County, the Board of Supervisors decided not to offer Wozab scholarship funds for this year.
The group first offered the scholarships in 2015 with the goal of assisting non-traditional students. That means not necessarily graduating high school seniors.
The money was also intended to lure, and keep, professionals pursuing a vocational gap in Valley County and would be likely to stay in the area.
However, with no way of ensuring the person receiving the scholarship stays, the board didn’t see it as in the spirit of the Wozab Fund. “These organizations who apply for the Wozab Funds are people who are right here in the county, already,” says Board President Bob Svenker, “We’re speculating on investing in somebody who maybe will be here and maybe won’t.”
Last year to board has $5,000 to award to applicants.
