LINCOLN — A vote in the Nebraska Legislature advanced a bill that would tighten surveillance of prescription drugs.
Currently, Nebraska is one of two states without such a program.
The bill creates a database for medical professionals to check before prescribing or distributing opioid painkillers.
The goal is to prevent addicts from getting prescriptions from multiple doctors. The system would take effect within two years.
