ORD — This May, Ord residents will have a chance to vote on the re-election of the city’s sales tax for economic development.
In 2001, the community approved an economic development plan and a 1% local option sales tax to run for 15 years. This is used for various economic development projects.
With the end of 2016 comes the end of that 15-year period and a re-election to continue with the sales tax for economic development. It would take effect at the beginning of 2017.
The plan is to have the language of the ballot finalized by March with a resolution from the city council, hold a public hearing in April and then vote on May 10th as part of the Nebraska state primary.
