ORD — In a survey of more than 100 communities, NMPP asked for information on typical electric, water and sewer bills for customers.
This covered all across Nebraska, as well as a handful from Iowa, Colorado, Wyoming and Kansas.
Notably, several local cities and towns took part.
For electric the survey was split between summer and winter. In the summer, the average household (1,000 kWh) of those surveyed totaled $124,31. St. Paul ($116.42), Broken Bow ($110.30), Ord ($99.40) and Spalding ($92.44) were all below the average, while Central City ($128.42), Burwell ($133.30), Ansley ($138.23), and Sargent ($159..50) were above.
The average residential customer paid $111.26 in winter with Spalding ($92.44), Broken Bow ($94.20), Central City ($97.82), St. Paul ($98.26) and Ord ($99.40) below. Sargent ($112.22), Burwell ($126.30), and Ansley ($133.24) were above.
For water (per 5,000 gallons), Centra City ($11.66), Ord ($11.75), Spalding ($13.30), Burwell ($16.75), Albion $17.49), Sargent ($23.75) and Broken Bow ($24.88) were below the $26.54 average. Ravenna ($26.75), Ansley ($29.75), Cairo ($32.00), and St. Paul ($45.90) were above.
Finally in sewer bills (per 5,000 gallons), Ord ($7.75) was the second lowest average bill and was joined by Spalding ($14.50), St. Paul ($23.00), and Central City ($24.01) below the $25.05 average, while Ravenna ($27.00), Burwell ($25.50) and Sargent ($28.00) were above.
In understanding this data, it’s important to note that the survey was voluntary so communities did not need to participate. One reason why some similar communities would bills that are higher or lower than those which might be similar is based on the work that the city does on its own, compared to what it charges others to do.
