LINCOLN — As the short legislative session continues, state senators are deciding which bills they will designate as a priority.
43rd District Senator Al Davis says he’s considering a few bills, but is leaning toward one that benefits EMT’s.
He wants to create a $250 income tax credit for volunteers in the areas. Davis thinks this will be particularly helpful in the outstate.
“Rural Nebraska is especially dependent on services provided by volunteers, who spend many hours each month fighting fires, maintaining the equipment, training and maintaining the ambulance,” Davis says.
The senator adds that increasing requirements and costs make it difficult for many rural EMT services to keep up.
