NORTH LOUP — After reviewing financial and other factors, the Valley County Health System Board has decided to close the North Loup Clinic.
The hospital looked into the finances after it became aware of some issues with the building. The roof is starting to leak, window frames are showing wear and a new paint job is needed.
The estimated total cost of these projects is nearly $20,000.
The board decided it wasn’t worth the cost for how much the clinic is used. Currently, a doctor sees between one and two patients for a half-day each week and those patients have still had to make the trip to Ord to get any prescribed medication.
VCHS plans on looking into its public transportation plan to see if it could qualify for any rural health grants and help with the cost to those who need to be brought to the health system for care.
The North Loup Clinic was purchased in 1994 for about $30,000.
