LINCOLN — Death penalty are starting a campaign to urge voters to keep capital punishment off the books.
Voters will have a chance to decide during the November general election after a petition effort was successful last summer.
The group, Retain a Just Nebraska, formed earlier this week and will lead the effort. They’re arguing that voters are operating under the mistaken assumption that restoring the punishment will allow executions right away.
Nebraska hasn’t used the death penalty since 1997.
