LINCOLN — Senator Al Davis has reintroduced a wind energy bill to the Nebraska Legislature.
A form of this measure was introduced by a different lawmaker last year that would create a tax credit to attract wind farms. A filibuster killed that one before a vote.
Davis’ version would target counties with less than 7,000 people. That’s because he thinks rural Nebraska stands to benefit the most.
“It does target those investments to parts of the state where depopulation has taken place where property taxes are a problem,” he explains. “[It would create] some good jobs, some income for the landowners, property tax relief: it would all be really beneficial.”
The short session and the amount of bills being pushed makes it unlikely that this wind proposal will make it out of the legislature.
The current session ends on April 20th.
