LINCOLN — The Nebraska Legislature will debate a bill that uses federal medicaid dollars and state money to provide health insurance for low-income residents.
The bill is intended to cover childless adults who have fallen into a coverage gap.
Most of the money comes from the federal government, but the state would draw $63 million over three years from a health care cash fund.
The proposal features a three-year sunset stipulation and an independent review. This allows lawmakers and the governor to review the program and decided whether to continue it.
Governor Ricketts has voiced opposition to the bill.
