LINCOLN — The Revenue Committee in the Nebraska Legislature rejected a proposal that would have increased the state’s cigarette tax.
The measure would have increased the tax from $0.64 to $2,14 per pack.
The hope was to use the more than $100 million of estimated revenue to help fund property tax relief and public health programs.
Two senators in the committee were for the bill and six were against.
