LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers have bracketed a medicaid proposal in the legislature.
This effectively kills it for the session. The proposal would have covered an estimated 97,000 uninsured people who have incomes too high to qualify for traditional medicaid, but too low to receive tax credits.
Some referred to the measure as the most conservative in the nation.
Instead of expanding medicaid, the bill would use the funding to buy coverage for residents without access to an employer-sponsored plan.
Among the opponents was Governor Ricketts. He called the plan “unsustainable” and says rejecting it was “wise” move.
