LINCOLN — An effort to make marijuana legal for certain medical purposes has died in the legislature.
Senators fell three votes short of the 33 needed to break a filibuster and force a vote on a medical marijuana bill. The measure would have made the substance a legal option for Nebraskans suffering from chronic illness.
Opponents include Governor Ricketts and the Department of Health and Human Services. A main concern is that the drug is not approved by the FDA and cannot be tested for safety like other drugs.
