On Wednesday April 27th the Callaway schools held a Walk-A-Thon on Friday they all gathered again along with community members and local firefighters as they all excitedly wait to see a check presentation that totaled $11,633.00 in donations was raised. The school and community of Callaway held the public Walk-A-Thon to raise financial support for the Callaway Volunteer Fire Department. The event organizers also wanted to say “thank you” to those who helped stop the fires on Thursday March 24, 2022. In honor of the 17 hours that multiple fire crews spent on the scene the Walk-A-Thon was held for 17 hours as well. Multiple homes and other structures were in the path of the wildfires that day and thanks to the multiple crews and aerial support none of them were destroyed. Organizers said donations were still coming in so the total on Friday was not the final count.
