Prosecutors charged a Grand Island man with an additional seven felonies and two misdemeanors in connection with a hostage and standoff situation that occurred on March 26. According to officials, Tyler Manka, 27, is being charged with felony kidnapping, three counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, burglary, terroristic threats, escape when under arrest for a felony and misdemeanor resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer. Police say Manka escaped custody of Hall County Corrections officers while at CHI-St. Francis Hospital. From there he fled into a retirement home and than into a nearby apartment where he a help a hostage for 12 hours until a SWAT team entered the apartment and arrest him. These seven charges are being added onto another nine charges he is facing in connection to a July 2021 shooting in which one victim was wounded in Grand Island.
