YORK, Neb. – A grand jury has issued a “No True Bill” regarding the passing of a York County Jail inmate, absolving the county of fault.
The inmate, Justin Christensen, 30, from Livermore, Iowa, was discovered deceased in his cell at the York County Jail on September 9, 2023.
Whenever there is a death in custody or during apprehension, a grand jury investigation is required.
The “No True Bill” states, “the grand jury finds there was no criminal conduct on the part of any individual that caused or contributed to the cause of the death of Justin Christensen.”
However, as per court documents, the grand jury does suggest “additional correctional and dietary staff, inmate access to mental health treatment in a timely manner, the use of flashlights during rounds/inmate cell checks, and cameras in the jail.”
Christensen, according to court records, was held in jail for one count of felony theft from August 26, 2023, with a scheduled court appearance on September 13, 2023.
