In Grand Island, Nebraska, 28-year-old Troy Behnken made an appearance in Hall County Court on Wednesday morning.
During the proceedings, he requested a contested preliminary hearing. The judge granted this request, setting the hearing for April 22 at 9 a.m.
The charges against Behnken stem from a February incident involving a shooting in Grand Island. Police took Behnken into custody in February after multiple shotgun rounds were discharged from an apartment in central Grand Island.
The shooting incident occurred around 11 p.m. on February 28, when an individual exited an apartment onto a patio at 626 South Eddy and fired the shotgun multiple times towards a nearby auto repair shop. According to police, the shots struck and damaged a tow truck, windows at the repair shop, a pickup truck with a woman inside, and two other vehicles nearby. Fortunately, the tow truck driver and the woman in the pickup were not harmed despite being in the line of fire.
The individual then returned to the apartment and refused to exit until law enforcement obtained a warrant and forcibly entered. Troy Behnken was arrested by police around 2:30 a.m. on February 29. He was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted felony, two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony, and four counts of felony mischief.
