KEARNEY, NE – The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department swiftly responded to a reported trash fire near the intersection of East 13th Street and F Avenue on Saturday at 11:23 a.m.
Upon their arrival, firefighters encountered a significant blaze on the exterior of a home, rapidly spreading into the structure and posing a threat to nearby residences. The fire was promptly extinguished within minutes of their arrival.
Meanwhile, additional firefighters were assigned to force open the front door for a thorough search of the premises. Thick, black smoke permeated throughout the building. Fortunately, two dogs were successfully rescued from inside the home and returned unharmed to their owners. Thankfully, no other occupants were present at the time.
Currently, the fire is undergoing investigation by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s office. While the official cause of the fire remains pending, it has been preliminarily classified as accidental.
During this operation, the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department received assistance from the Kearney Police Department, CHI Good Samaritan EMS, Northwestern Energy, Nebraska Public Power District, and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Investigator.
