Central Community College’s Mechatronics program, established in 2021, has rapidly expanded its reach to include 13 high schools across central Nebraska, with plans to encompass 17 schools next year. This initiative aims to introduce students to the realm of industrial automation through a curriculum comprising four applied science courses. Since its inception, the program has attracted 275 high school students, many of whom have continued their education at CCC post-graduation. The program offers a versatile skill set beneficial for various career paths, from engineering to mechatronics degrees at CCC. Local businesses have also shown support, offering scholarships to students pursuing Mechatronics at CCC.
This support stems from the industry’s growing demand for skilled technicians adept at working with automation technology. The program’s success in preparing high school students for future careers has earned it national recognition, including a top 10 finish for the Bellwether Award in March 2024. This accolade highlights the program’s impact and places CCC and Nebraska at the forefront of innovative workforce training initiatives nationwide.”
