Grand Island police are investigating a rental scam after a 62-year-old man reportedly lost approximately 2,700 dollars in a fraudulent housing scheme.
According to authorities, the Grand Island resident told officers he responded to a TikTok advertisement promoting a home in Grand Island that was allegedly available for rent. Believing the listing to be legitimate, the man sent payments totaling about 2,700 dollars through Chime money transfers and Apple gift cards to secure the property.
Police later determined the home was not actually available for rent, indicating the listing was part of a scam. The investigation remains ongoing.
