Grand Island police say a wanted man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after attempting to flee from officers, and a Sutton woman was also arrested for allegedly helping him avoid law enforcement.
According to Grand Island Police, officers were driving near a residence on Waldo Avenue around 1:15 p.m. when they spotted 21-year-old Jesus Patino of Grand Island, who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.
Authorities say when Patino noticed officers, he ran from the scene along with a 16-year-old male. Police established a perimeter and were able to apprehend both individuals following a foot pursuit.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, Patino was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer after reportedly refusing to cooperate with officers.
Police also arrested 21-year-old Mary Mesa of Sutton, alleging she knowingly assisted Patino while he was wanted by authorities. Investigators say Mesa had been allowing Patino to stay with her in Sutton and drove him to Grand Island to visit his mother. She was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to a felony.
The 16-year-old male was cited for obstructing a police officer, along with minor in possession of tobacco after officers reportedly found vape pens in his possession.
