Bids for the South Street concrete replacement project were opened on July 29, 2026. The project will replace the existing brick and asphalt pavement between Lincoln and Hastings avenues with 9 inches of concrete.
Diamond Engineering Co. of Grand Island submitted the lowest bid and was awarded the contract for $75,684. The company proposed beginning work on Monday, Aug. 10.
Construction is weather dependent, but Diamond Engineering expects to complete the paving in about two weeks. After the concrete is poured, it must cure for the required seven days before the street can reopen to traffic.
Under the project specifications, all concrete work must be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 1.
