Grand Island police are searching for a driver involved in two separate incidents of fleeing from officers at high rates of speed on Aug. 15.
The first incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. at First and Eddy streets. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle after observing it traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a traffic light. After the traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle fled at an even higher speed and failed to stop at a stop sign. Due to safety concerns, officers discontinued the pursuit.
The driver is wanted on suspicion of felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, speeding, and violations of a stop sign and traffic signal.
The second incident happened around 10:26 p.m. at Third and Madison streets. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for having no registration, but the driver fled eastbound on Third Street at a very high rate of speed, passing vehicles in the opposing lane.
The driver is wanted on suspicion of felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and no registration.
Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said the same vehicle was involved in both incidents. The vehicle was described as a black Dodge four-door sedan.
Both incidents remain under investigation. Anyone who may have information regarding either incident is urged to contact the Grand Island Police Division at 308-385-5400.
