The Kearney Police Department has wrapped up its “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic enforcement campaign, which ran from Aug. 21 through Sept. 7 as part of a national effort to combat impaired driving over the Labor Day holiday.
Throughout the campaign, KPD made 426 traffic contacts and issued 93 citations. Officers also made 15 DUI arrests, apprehended 17 fugitives and cited nine drivers for reckless driving.
“These numbers demonstrate why focused traffic enforcement remains so important, particularly during holiday travel periods. Our ultimate goal is preventing crashes, injuries, and loss of life before they occur. Every impaired driver removed from the roadway represents a potentially serious crash that may have been prevented,” said Captain Kevin Thompson.
The enforcement campaign was supported through grant funding from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
