The national Alzheimer’s Association will host one of its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s events Sunday, Oct. 11, at Amur Plaza in Grand Island. The walk will begin at 1:30 p.m., with in-person registration opening at 1 p.m.
Bri Hizel, sales director for CountryHouse, a retirement community specializing in Alzheimer’s care, said the Grand Island event is among the largest of more than 500 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events held nationwide.
“It’s actually one of the largest fundraisers in the country and the largest fundraiser worldwide for Alzheimer’s,” Hizel said. “There’s over 500 walks across the country and it’s really the premier fundraiser to grow funds to fund the research that the Alzheimer’s Association is doing as well as the support and research.”
During the walk, participants will carry flowers in different colors representing their personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease. One participant will carry a white flower, which symbolizes hope for a cure.
